KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR THIS GUY: CARLOS ARIAS

He is a real New Yorker, husband of my beautiful friend Nina, currently daddy, a happening NYC disco DJ and the creative head of his own record label “Whatever We Want Recordsâ€. This February he is spinning at the anniversary party of the “No ordinary Monkey†party range at the China Room in Manhattan.
Circleculture‘s Julia spoke to DJ Carlos:
1. Whatever we want records. What is it that you want?
Literally, a 67 Porsche is cool! Figuratively, I want the Japanese to leave the whales alone.
2. How do you explain your style and how can you identify with it?
No style is the best style. A broken clock is correct twice a day.
3. Where do you play in New York? Any frequent parties?
We have a jam that‘s going on it 2nd or 3rd year anniversary in February. It‘s called no ordinary monkey. We move it around a lot, but we make sure it happens at least once a month.
4. What’s your favorite song? Any recommendations?
Anything on my label. Trust me!
5. Who is part of the Whatever We Want Team? Which artists do you support?
The team is my wife Ninaballerina, and my 5 month old son August. With help from the Bullocks in Hankins, and the Kopplemans in London.
The artist are: Quiet Village Project – a dynamic duo of Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave/Rekid and Joel Martin aka Zeuss, Bobbie Marie the Mexican teen punk with a killer voice – ladies beware, God Sy who‘s been accused of being a “man made disasterâ€, Map of Africa consist of the legendary DJ Harvey and Rub‘n‘Tugs Thomas Bullock who‘s also behind the Bobbie Marie madness, East Ridge Band, I can‘t wait until this album drops, Fishy B is work in progress, Otterman Empire a trilogy of re-edits of making dance music out of non dance music tunes, an original album due in the winter of 2006.
6. What do you love?
My baby boys laugh
7. What do you hate?
Immigration officers. I feel better after dealing with a dentist…
