Origami meets Streetart. Less Rain präsentiert in seiner Less Rain Basement Gallery eine Sammlung von Werken des japanischen Illustrators Shin Tanaka. In Zusammenarbeit mit zahlreichen japanischen und europäischen Graffitiartists ist es Tanaka gelungen, seinen Kult-Characters zahlreiche neue Facetten hinzuzufügen. Und das Besondere: Jeder kann sich seine Version der Paper Toys T-Boy , Gritty oder Spiky nach Hause zaubern. Der Künstler stellt seine Characters als Vorlage zum bearbeiten ins Netz (siehe “how to colloberate” auf shin.co.nr). Nur falten musst du selber.

Der Grafikkünstler und Illustrator Shin Tanaka vermischt die traditionelle japanische Kunst des „Origami“ mit modernen illustrativen Stilelementen. In aufwendiger Handarbeit kreiert er dabei Paper Toys zu kleinen Kunstobjekten. Shin Tanaka hat sich in kürzester Zeit einen Namen erarbeitet. Das verdankt er der starken Kommunikationswirkung des Internets, den zahlreichen Foren und Blogs und eben der Idee Kunst mit anderen zu teilen. Zuerst kreierte er Sneakers für sich und stellte sie auf seine Homepage, später für zahlreiche Marken wie Nike und Adidas. Bekannt wurde Shin Tanaka mit den Paper Toys (besonders mit dem T-Boy), die er auf der Suche nach einer neuen Oberfläche für seine Grafittis entwickelte.
In weniger als einem Jahr gestaltete Shin Tanaka in Zusammenarbeit mit zahlreichen Marken und unzähligen Künstlern seine Characters immer wieder aufs Neue. Dazu zählen unter anderem Adidas , Nike , ARK UNITED, BRICKBOY, BSHIT, Doktor A, DR. ZULU, FRESHNESS, !@#$, LMAC, Playtimes, PRO WOLF MASTER, nanospore, ProductHK, REACH, ROGUE STATUS, SCUM, SKWAK, slamxhype, Sneaker Pimps, Trexi, UNKL brand und viele mehr.
Die Sammlung ist ab dem 18. August in der Galerie von Less Rain zu sehen. Die Agentur verbindet mit Tanaka nicht nur die Liebe zu Japan. Less Rain baut gerade seinen Standort in Tokyo aus. Auch der Streetart fühlt sich die Agentur verpflichtet. Digital natürlich: Less Rain hat ein Graffiti Spray Tool entwickelt mit dem man legal und virtuell sprühen kann. Auf höchstem Niveau! Das zeigen die weit mehr als 20.000 Werke, die bereits online (vandalsquad.com)ausgestellt werden.

Origami meets street art. Less Rain presents Shin Tanaka‘s collection of paper Origami in his Less Rain Basement Gallery . Designed by himself and other Japanese and European graffiti artists and illustrators, he created new facets of these iconic objects. The special clue: Everybody can create an own version of the paper toys Paper Toys T-Boy , Gritty oder Spiky. The artist puts the paper toy templates on his website so that everyone can download, custom, build up and display an own individual character.
The graphic artist and illustrator Shin Tanaka mixes the traditional Japanese art of paper Origami with modern illustrative styles. In extensive handwork small paper toys become art objects. So he creates an exciting link between the two cultures. The traditional Japan becomes visual and is now influenced by modern street art. Shin Tanaka got popular in a very short time, thank to the strong communication impact of the internet, the numerous forums, blogs and the idea to share his art with others.
Shin started his playful passion for Origami paper art driven by a simple motivation. He wanted to create all the sneakers he couldn‘t afford during his studies. He created little paper models of his favourite shoes and out them on his website. Finally his work was displayed in a showcase of the NIKE design library and his work became a growing num-ber of fans including sneaker freaks, graphic designers and street artists. He got popular with the T-Boy, his youngest paper model, which he developed on his research for a new surface for his graffiti pieces. Because it is very easy to fold the T-Boy and the other toys like Gritty and Spiky, the number of collectors grew fast. In less than one year Shin Tanaka gave his characters new faces in cooperation with over 80 brands (Adidas, Ark United, etc.) and many different artists.
The exhibition opens August 18th in the gallery of the design bureau Less Rain. The agency is not only connected with Tanaka because of its love to Japan. Currently Less Rain builds up its location in Tokyo. The agency also feels connected to street art. In a digital way, of course: Less Rain developed a graffiti spray tool. With this tool you can spray virtually and legally on a high level. That shows the over 20.000 works, that are exhibited online (vandalsquad.com).
